My full name is Piscine Molitor Patel. I was named this because of a family friend who was very fond of swimming, and particularly the Piscine Molitor pool. They did not name me after the friend, no, they named me after a swimming pool. As if that was not bad enough, the rest of my classmates got it in their minds to give me a nickname, "Pissing." I could not stand it anymore, so I changed it to a name with more meaning that a simple pool. Pi, 3.14, a number that is simultaneously irrational and constant. I chose Pi for the layered meanings, because some things can be too hard to understand, some things are complex, with many layers, and I think I am more than the boy with the unfortunate name. Suddenly, I was no longer the class joke, I was something important in the world, something that had a place.
